Is Search Engine Submission Necessary?

Search engine submission is not necessary to let Google and other crawlers find you.

search engine submissionSearch engine submission to Google (the 800 pound gorilla) and other search engines isn’t needed because they are constantly crawling and indexing pages by following links. That’s why we refer to these search engine indexing algorithms as “spiders.” They spread out like a spider web. A single inbound link from any already-indexed page will lead he search engine bots to your page. Subsequently, if that page links to other pages on our off your site, they will also be indexed… ad nauseam.

For this reason, inbound linking is very important.

Getting inbound links to your site may be the most important part of off-page SEO. In theory though, a website owner doesn’t have to seek out links. If your content is of interest, there is a natural tendency among web users to link to your information.

Be careful though. There are definite best practices for getting backlinks.

We have written about those best practices, including avoiding reciprocal linking, and we will continue to do so. Google and the other search companies change their search algorithm constantly, so giving them what they want is a constant process. Google shares some words about their algorithm here.

On the flip side, search engine submission can’t hurt.

But doing so once is enough. You don’t need to submit your site more than one time. It just doesn’t help your site to get crawled any quicker or more often.
